History & Timeline

With origins dating back to 1923, TWIW Insurance Services has a rich history of serving clients throughout Central California. TWIW has continuously adapted to the changing insurance market, seeking out new partnerships to maintain steady, manageable growth and finding innovative ways to meet clients’ burgeoning needs. While its name has changed and its reach has broadened, one thing has remained constant: TWIW has fiercely maintained its independence.

 

1920s Cary E. Tolman opens his own insurance agency in downtown Ventura targeting local oil companies and ranchers. -1923
1930s Leo Acquistapace launches his insurance business in Santa Maria. - 1932
1940s

Robert Wiker partners with Cary Tolman for form Tolman &Wiker Insurance in Ventura. - 1945

Vinson L Pollard opens his Santa Maria-based agency; son Jim joins his dad's firm in 1964

1960s

Tony Cossa launches Tony Cossa Insurance Agency in Santa Maria, competing directly with Vinson Pollard for new customers. - 1964

1966 - Jim Pollard and Tony Cossa agree to merge, forming Pollard & Cossa Insurance Brokers; premium volume grows to $520K after just two years and the acquisition of a small Los Alamos agency.

1970s Robert Acquistapace joins his father's business, and the renamed Acquistapace Insurance Services acqires four other agencies over the next 13 years.
1980s 1981 - Pollard & Cossa acquires Sesto Insurance Agency, which boosts total sales to more than $6 million by year end; it purchases Cockrell-Nelson Insurance Agency two years later.
1990s

Tolman & Wiker merges with Nesen Anderson & Co. Insurance Services in Ventura and acquires Frank B. Hall/Rollins Hudig Hall of Oxnard later that year. - 1992

1997 - Pollard & Cossa Insurance merges with Acquistapace Insurance Serices to form InWest Insurance Services.

1999 - The Faulkner Insurance Agency joins InWest, establishing InWest's Bakersfield presence.

 2000s

2000 - Verga Peninsula Insurance Agency joins InWest to establish a Monterey Presence. Murray-Knox Insurance merges later that year, making InWest's Bakersfield office one of the largest sources of insurance services in Central California.

Tolman and Wiker Insurance and InWest Insurance Services form a merger to become TWIW Insurance Services, LLC. TWIW becomes the largest independent insurance brokerage on the Central Coast. -2005

2006 - TWIW acquires Rucker Insurance Services, one of Oxnard's premier agricultural agencies.
